For our final week, the kinders will be making pizza and fruit juice. For the pizza, the kids kneaded dough, cut up the ingredients and also took part in ESL conversations answering what they wanted on their pizza.
For fruit juice, they’ll be cutting oranges and bananas into small pieces, then we’ll throw them into the mixer and watch as it turns into juice.
The Dazzling Rubies will be doing an all month craft project this month, where we’ll make vegetable crafts and design a whole garden. So far we’ve made corn, tomatoes and potatoes. As the theme is on food, we’ll be learning about all kinds of fruit and vegetables in the process. We hope this project will encourage the kids to try and identify food on the dinner table in English
Today for our afternoon Dazzling Rubies class, we had a total of 11 kids!
It’s always more exciting with lots of friends, and with songs it’s easier to start a chain reaction. This month’s theme has been Summer and Water, and today for crafts we colored and decorated mermaids!
Hang in there guys, the weather will start to get cooler soon!
This month the Dazzling Rubies students have been learning about summer. In class we have been doing a Total Physical Response activity with a summer song, and learning English words related to summer.
One of the words we have been learning is sunglasses. We have been making a Sunglasses craft and a summer hair craft in class. The students had fun using straws to transfer paint onto a picture of a face and coloring sunglasses in their favorite colors.
Every lesson during literacy time, we sing ABC phonics songs and drill the many sounds into the kids, then we play games to test their understanding. This has been an ongoing thing ever since every single one of them joined our school, and as we played the usual identify-the-sound-with-the-picture game today, we were really amazed at how smoothly they figured things out.
Phonics is without a question the most important and fundamental area in learning the English language, and we are really happy that the kids are catching on while having fun at the same time
This month the Dazzling Rubies have been studying about families and relevant vocab, and much to their delight most of the craft they’ve been doing has involved using actual pictures of their family members.
In this article we’ll introduce one of the crafts they did – a ferris wheel they decorated and pasted photos of their family photos onto. They also took turns replying when asked by the teacher if they were afraid of heights, and if they’ve ever been on a ferris wheel.
This month’s kinders are focusing on Family this month. All our crafts are designed to help the kids identify their family members (mom, dad, brother, sister etc) and as most of them use actual photos of their families, excitement levels in our classes are quite high lol
A new song we have been learning this month is The Family song, and as it requires the kids singing to actually know the family vocab, this song has been very effective in getting the kids to memorize them.
The picture below is the song poster for My Family.
今月から新しく習い始めた歌で、The Family songというのがあります。家族関連の単語をしっかり覚えていないと歌うのが難しいので、毎レッスンこれを歌うことでだいぶ子ども達も覚えてきました♪

It’s that time of year when we show our appreciation for our fathers, and very single kid at our school made crafts for Father’s day. We hope the daddies enjoyed them, and we’re very thankful for all the hard work!
The Dazzling Rubies have been singing phonics songs for quite some time now, but nowadays their progress is really showing – most of them are familiar with the basic sounds of each alphabet now, so it’s only a matter of time before we start blending sounds to make words. We’re really proud of the continuous effort the kids have been putting in. Even if it’s something as simple as singing the same song every time they’re here, it’s because they always sing hard that they know the contents off heart now Way to go Rubies!
Nowadays classroom attitude and participation for the Dazzling Rubies has been on an all time high, thanks to the Santa motivation. We got the idea from the oni app, but basically we pretend to call Santa and ask him if he’s watching. This really motivates the kids well and drives them to perform better in class. We hope to continue applying new methods to better motivate the kids at our school
